AfriVenture Lab has successfully hosted a three-day Climate Innovation and Entrepreneurship Bootcamp and Pitch Day, bringing together students from 13 Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions across Ghana to develop innovative, entrepreneurial solutions to climate-related challenges.

Building Skills in Climate-Smart Innovation and Entrepreneurship

The first two days of the bootcamp focused on equipping participants with foundational knowledge and practical skills in climate-smart innovation, product development, and business pitching.

Through the training sessions, students were introduced to approaches for developing climate-conscious products and solutions that respond to environmental challenges while creating economic and social value.

A key component of the training focused on developing effective pitch decks and communicating innovative ideas to potential investors, partners, and other stakeholders. Participants explored the essential elements of a compelling pitch deck, including the introduction, problem statement, proposed solution, competitor analysis, impact, market size, revenue model, traction, key milestones, funding requirements and budget, team presentation, and closing slide.

The sessions emphasised the importance of clearly defining a problem, demonstrating the value of a proposed solution, understanding the target market, and presenting a credible pathway towards implementation and growth.

By combining climate-smart product development with entrepreneurial and pitching skills, the bootcamp sought to strengthen the capacity of students to move beyond ideas and develop solutions with the potential for real-world application.

Students Showcase Innovative Climate Solutions

The third and final day of the programme culminated in a Pitch Day, providing participating students with the opportunity to present their climate innovation solutions.

The students showcased a range of ideas reflecting their creativity, problem-solving abilities, and understanding of the opportunities within the climate innovation space. Their presentations demonstrated the potential of TVET institutions to contribute to addressing climate challenges through practical, skills-based innovation and entrepreneurship.

The Pitch Day also provided an opportunity for students to apply the knowledge and skills acquired during the two-day training, particularly in structuring their presentations, communicating the value of their solutions, and articulating their potential impact.

The quality of the presentations highlighted the importance of creating opportunities for young innovators to develop their ideas, build entrepreneurial confidence, and gain exposure to platforms that encourage innovation and solution-oriented thinking.

Five Winning Schools Receive Cash Prizes

In recognition of their efforts and innovative climate solutions, five participating schools emerged as winners, with each school receiving a cash prize of US$1,000.

The prizes are intended to recognise the students' innovative efforts and encourage the continued development of their solutions. The recognition also underscored the importance of supporting young people with the resources and opportunities needed to advance promising ideas.

The Pitch Day marked a significant milestone in the bootcamp, celebrating not only the winning teams but also the collective creativity, participation, and entrepreneurial potential demonstrated by students from all 13 TVET institutions.

As Ghana continues to explore opportunities within the green economy, initiatives that connect technical skills with innovation and entrepreneurship can help young people identify challenges, develop solutions, and pursue opportunities that create lasting impact.

AfriVenture Lab remains committed to fostering an environment where innovation is encouraged, entrepreneurial potential is strengthened, and young people are empowered to transform ideas into solutions for a more sustainable future.
